Documentary Wedding Photographer in Los Angeles
THE PERSON BEHIND THE CAMERA
ABOUT RENÉ PORTO

I’VE ALWAYS BEEN DRAWN TO WHAT HOLDS MEANING.
I grew up as an only child, and it shaped how I move through the world. Time alone teaches you to observe, to notice tone, energy, and the quiet shifts in people.
I remember moments not because they were loud, but because of how they felt. The pause before laughter. The way a room softens when something meaningful is unfolding.
That instinct stayed with me long before photography. The camera didn’t give me this way of seeing — it gave me a way to honor it. It’s what allows me to document the moments most people don’t even realize are happening.
That's what you'll find in your gallery. Not just what happened — but how it felt to be there.
It's why couples across Los Angeles and Southern California trust me to document the most important day of their lives.
THE CAMERA BECAME MY CANVAS
As a kid, I was obsessed with art, especially painting. I studied composition, color, light, and emotion. I loved how a single frame could hold tension, softness, or silence.
Cinema pulled me in just as deeply. I paid attention to how scenes were structured, how music shifted a moment, how a story could unfold without a single word.
So I studied art history. I studied photography. That’s when everything clicked.
A camera became my medium; a way to compose, observe, and tell stories honestly.
When you look at your gallery, you'll see that influence — in how the light sits, how the frame breathes, how each image holds a specific feeling rather than just a moment.
Today, I make paintings for a living. They just happen to be made of real people, real moments, and real love.
Every wedding I photograph — whether in Los Angeles, Santa Barbara, Malibu, or destination — is approached the same way. With intention, with presence, and with an editorial eye trained to find what's real.

THE FIRST CAMERA I EVER OWNED
My dad was the first person to ever gift me a camera.
He’s no longer here, but his presence is woven into everything I do. There’s a photograph I return to often. I’m a baby, sitting on top of his motorcycle, held securely in front of him. It’s still my favorite photo.
Photography became my way of staying connected to him. Every wedding I document feels like a continuation of something he helped start.
In a quiet way, this work fulfills his memory. And mine.

THIS IS THE WORK I WAS MEANT TO DO
Before photography became my full-time career, I spent years in the service industry. It shaped how I move through the world more than most people realize.
I learned how to read a room quickly, stay calm when emotions run high, and navigate different personalities with care and respect. I've also spent years studying the craft of posing and directing people — because knowing how to make someone look and feel extraordinary in front of a camera is a skill, not an instinct. You'll never feel lost or awkward. You'll feel guided. Weddings are beautiful, emotional, unpredictable days, and I show up grounded and steady. I guide when needed, step back when it matters, and hold space so couples can fully live their day.
As a documentary wedding photographer based in Los Angeles, I've had the privilege of working with couples at some of Southern California's most beautiful venues — from Santa Barbara courthouse elopements and Beverly Hills courthouse weddings to Malibu estate weddings. That balance comes from experience. And it’s something I bring into every wedding I photograph.

"Every image feels artistic and real at the same time — the candid moments, the portraits, and all the little in-between moments we didn't even realize were happening. Looking through our photos truly feels like reliving the entire experience again."

WHAT MATTERS MOST TO ME
Your wedding day deserves one thing above everything else — space.
Space for you to breathe.
Space to feel.
Space to be fully present without worrying about how it looks.
I pay attention to what’s unfolding quietly. I guide when needed. I step back when it matters.
What matters most to me isn’t perfection — it’s trust. When there’s trust, everything else follows.
I work with couples throughout Los Angeles, Orange County, Santa Barbara, San Diego, and destination worldwide.
